From "Disney's Bonkers," presenting...

Bonkers D. Bobcat

The Cartoon Star Turned Cartoon Cop

Who Is He?
Bonkers is a toon bobcat living in a world where cartoon characters and human co-exist, a la "Roger Rabbit." Bonkers starts out as a semi-successful star of his own series of animated shorts titled, "He's Bonkers!" Unfortunately, he and his co-stars are fired by their Hollywood studio in favor of more violent TV shows. In a depressed state, Bonkers eventually finds himself at a local park where he meets Donald Duck, whom he inadvertantly saves from a robber. The Hollywood police department hires Bonkers as the first member of their new "toon division," with human Lucky Piquel as his partner. After having many zany adventures, with Lucky playing the straight man to Bonkers' wackiness, Bonkers is newly partnered up with sensible human Miranda Wright. No matter who he's with, Bonkers is often up against crooks of human or toon nature, or he's providing assistance to toons who do more harm than good to Bonkers' partner / Bonkers himself.

Why Do I Love Him?
His cheerful, optimistic, never-say-die and somewhat naïve attitude embodies the essence of all true “funny” toons. You can drop an anvil on his head, you can blow him up with dynamite, you can run him over with a steamroller—he will always bounce back for more! I also think he’s quite handsome when drawn just the right way. ^_^ Many people tend to think he’s a rip-off of Roger Rabbit. While I somewhat agree, I don’t think “rip-off” is an appropriate term. Disney doesn’t entirely own Roger, and they wanted a character like him to call their own. That was how Bonkers came into the picture. Bonkers is more like a descendant of Roger... and having practically been raised on Roger Rabbit as a little girl, Bonkers is a surefire hit for me!

My History With Him
This orange fur-ball with funny ears was my first acknowledged cartoon crush. There are some people who didn’t think the Bonkers show was very funny at all, but I highly disagree with them. The only complaints I have are about the Miranda Episodes-- they weren’t as funny or well-drawn as the Lucky Episodes. This was only because the Miranda ones were made first, but they were released AFTER the Lucky Episodes, and that just stunk to high heaven for me. No thanks to those chronological mishaps, my poor Bonkers has a very poor reputation. Hey, don’t blame the bobcat, people-- blame Disney (or more precisely, blame Buena Vista)! By the way, there’s something I’ve always wondered: what does the “D” in his name stand for anyway? If it stands for “Disney,” I’d want him to change it! XP

In a Nutshell...
Bonkers is playful, energetic, innocent, highly emotional, a good actor, and a jack-of-all-trades, naïve of human custom and true to his toon-self. He's selfless, brave, patient, and incredibly persistant. These traits often get Bonkers into trouble just as much as it gets him out of it, but all-in-all, he's highly endearing. Even Lucky, who has a tendency to lose patience with Bonkers on a constant basis, has a soft spot for the fuzzy little guy. And naturally, so do I. ^_~

Luv-O-Meter
Five banana peels out of five. Ya can't hold back that wacky toon cat-- that's why he's still a star.
